Math and Literacy
About a year ago I started collecting items and developing activities to use with my collection of math related literature. I looked at The Dollar Tree, Wal Mart, A.C. Moore, Michaels, Dollar General and many other places . The following pictures and activities are a result of my many trips to all the places where kindergarten teachers love to shop.

P.S. This is just the beginning......

Five Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice
by
Steve Metzger

I painted a cookie sheet light blue and added white for snow. The penguins were made from a kit I purchased at A.C. Moore. They are backed with magnetic tape.

       Five Little Penguins
Five little penguins, I once knew,
Short ones, fat ones, skinny ones, too.
But, the one little penguin with the RED bow tie,
He led the others because he like to slide,
He led the others because he like to slide.

Over the ice he would go,
Wibble wobble,
Wibble wobble, to and fro,
But, the one little penguin with the RED bow tie,
He led the others because he like to slide,
He led the others because he like to slide.

Five Little Penguins
Five little penguins swam the ocean floor,
One saw a whale, then there were four.

Four little penguins spun around, whee-ee!
One spun off, then there were three!

Three little penguins, with nothing to do,
One went fishing, then there were two.

Two little penguins, having lots of fun,
One fell of, then there was one.
One little penguin, when the day was done,
Went home to sleep, then there were none.

I painted a cookie sheet light blue and added white for snow. The penguins were made from a kit I purchased at A.C. Moore. They are backed with magnetic tape.

Bennie's Pennies

Pat Brisson
This is a great book for introducing money! The flannel pieces are so easy to make and the children love to be able to retell the story using the flannel board.

I'll be adding more ideas for snowmen and mittens very soon.
Email me if you have any questions.
